Steakhouse Cheddar Stack

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 thin beef burger patties
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Neutral oil or clarified butter for searing
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 burger bun (brioche or potato), toasted
  • 1–2 tbsp mayo
  • 1 tbsp steak sauce or steakhouse-style sauce
  • 2–3 slices bacon, cooked crisp
  • 2–3 slices red onion (or a small handful of caramelized onions)
  • 2–3 tomato slices
  • Handful of leaf lettuce or romaine

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Season both patties with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear first patty on a hot flat top or grill; when nearly done, top with a slice of cheddar and melt. Repeat with the second patty.
  3. Toast bun.
  4. Spread mayo on the bottom bun and steak sauce on the top bun.
  5. Place the first patty on the bottom bun, then add bacon, onions, tomato, and lettuce.
  6. Stack the second patty on top (cheese side up), close the burger, and serve.
