Black Pepper Cheddar Burger

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 beef burger patty
  • Kosher salt and coarsely cracked black pepper
  • Neutral oil or clarified butter for searing
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 burger bun (brioche or potato), toasted
  • 1–2 tbsp mayo
  • 1–2 tsp whole-grain or Dijon mustard
  • 3–4 dill pickle chips (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Season the patty generously with salt and a heavy coat of coarsely cracked black pepper on both sides.
  2. Sear on a hot flat top or grill until cooked to desired doneness.
  3. In the last minute, top with cheddar slices and cover to melt.
  4. Toast bun.
  5. Spread mayo on the bottom bun and mustard on the top bun.
  6. Place the pepper-crusted, cheddar-topped patty on the bottom bun, (add pickles if using), close, and serve.
